Choosing a Color Scheme

If you feel helpless when it comes to choosing and blending colors, your answer could be as close at hand as looking at your favorite bed spread or pillow. Choose a pattern from any object you already have and love. Starting with a pattern is the easiest way to create a color pallet for your décor.

Select a light, medium and dark color from your pattern to be used as your foundation. How you use these three colors will affect the overall appearance of your room. The lightest color is often used as the background color, but not always. The medium color is often used on large foundation objects such as furniture or window treatments. Your eye is drawn to a darker, more intense color and is often used on accessories in a manner to guide the eye through your room.
